Back Hikind’s Subway Cameras Making a Difference

In the summer of 2005, 120 surveillance cameras began recording Brooklyn subway stations thanks to Assemblyman Hikind, who secured MTA funds to place cameras in his district. No part of the nine stations on the D, F and N trains go unmonitored by the closed-circuit cameras, the Assemblyman explained. Images are simulcast on monitors for token booth attendants and the footage is stored for reference in the event of a crime. “The message,” said Hikind, “stay away from the subways if you’re doing something you’re not supposed to be doing.”
