Assemblyman Hikind was the first elected official in New York to speak out openly and regularly regarding the “Knockout game.” The attention he brought to the issue brought in other elected officials as well as regular media attention to this serious issue.
After months of our community being terrorized by perpetrators of the “Knockout game,” the NYPD finally arrested a suspect. The defendant gave statements to detectives implicating himself in five assaults and was charged with two additional assaults for a total of seven assaults. At long last, the “Knockout” pattern was closed with an arrest.
“I applaud the detectives and all of the NYPD law enforcement officers involved. They showed, once again, that when our community works together, we can make it a safer place.”
