I recently attended the Food Bank for New York City’s 4th Annual Legislative Breakfast honoring NYC HRA Commissioner, Steven Banks. I learned that there are an estimated 1.4 million New Yorkers who rely on emergency food programs such as soup kitchens and food pantries every year.
That is why I’m proud to support Masbia Soup Kitchen, a wonderful nonprofit in my district, and the only kosher food pantry in New York City. They feed hundreds of New Yorkers every single day.

Masbia, under the leadership of its founder Alex Rapaport, provides free meals in a restaurant-style environment. Volunteer waiters serve each person with respect and dignity. It’s well known that children who are hungry have trouble in school and at home—a warm, nutritious meal makes a huge difference in their life.
I’ve assisted many times with distributing food for the needy and donating to Masbia, a very worthy cause. Check out this recent article in Tablet Magazine that highlights their great work: http://www.tabletmag.com/jewish-life-and-religion/195194/kosher-soup-kitchen.
