HIKIND URGES COMMUNITY TO CALL CUOMO
REGARDING EDUCATION INVESTMENT TAX CREDITS

“TELL OUR GOVERNOR WE NEED HIM TO LEAD THE FIGHT
FOR THIS VITAL LEGISLATION.”

If passed, the legislation will provide up to $300 million in tax credits to people who donate money to schools and other educational organizations. The result will be an exponential increase in the amount of scholarships that are available to yeshiva students and other private school students in need of financial assistance.

Currently, there is support for the legislation in the NYS Senate, and the Governor has expressed his support for the bill, but resistance from other quarters makes the Governor’s leadership in passing this legislation vital. Towards that end, Assemblyman Hikind wrote to the Governor earlier this week urging him to personally champion Education Investment Tax Credits.

“New York State has made a loud and clear statement that we care about education—that education is a top priority,” said Hikind, “but one segment of the population was left out of the equation. Parents who opt to send their children to religious and private schools are still in need of some relief.”

Assemblyman Hikind applauded Timothy Cardinal Dolan for his leadership and persistence in the effort to bring relief to parents of private and parochial school students.

Hikind is urging community members to take the minute or two necessary to show the Governor how important this legislation is to our community. To contact Governor Cuomo, phone (518) 474-8390 (select option 3) or visit www.governor.ny.gov (click on contact tab) or Tweet @NYGovCuomo
