Assemblyman Dov Hikind attended a melave malka this past Saturday evening in honor of the Boro Park Shomrim where he addressed concerns regarding global and local terrorism as well as the all-important work that the Shomrim perform.
There’s real reason for concern, said Hikind. “There’s terrible problems in Paris—big problems in England and Belgium and many other places. And there’s a lot of concern in our community, as well. We cannot permit weeks to go by when everybody forgets. There’s a lot more to do and we’re going to do it. There’s no way to guarantee that whatever we do in the world—locally, in our community, with the police, with everybody—that we can protect anything 100%. But we must do everything humanly possible. G-d forbid if something happens, there can’t be any regrets. ‘Why didn’t we do this? Why didn’t we prepare our community—our shuls, our yeshivas?’ ”
Assemblyman Hikind had the highest praise for the Boro Park Shomrim and their leaders. “You are making such a difference [especially] with the concern about terror,” he said. “You are the front line. Your eyes watch, your ears hear… You know the community. You notice the wrong person walking down the street. No one can do what Shomrim does.”
