ASKS COLLEAGUES TO JOIN HIM

Assemblyman Dov Hikind (D-Brooklyn) says he will not be voting for the proposed Budget in Albany if it does not include Education Investment Tax Credits (EITC). He is urging his colleagues in the Assembly who genuinely support EITC to also stand up and be counted on this vital issue.

“This is a matter of principle,” said Assemblyman Hikind. “Everyone talks about the importance of education, how dedicated they are to education, how the State of New York must make education a priority.

“When we speak of the importance of education, we must speak of its importance for ALL of our children. Education Investment Tax Credits create a golden opportunity to help families who opt to send their children to private and parochial schools. But what’s amazing about this legislation is that half the money will go to public schools. Everyone wins.

“For far too long, kids who attend private and parochial schools have been swept aside. If our proposed budget leaves them out again, I can’t, in good conscience, vote for it.”
