Assemblyman Dov Hikind (D-Brooklyn) is urging the community to demonstrate its support for the NYPD and by joining him at the funeral of NYPD Officer Wenjian Liu. Owen J. Monaghan, NYPD Chief of Patrol Borough Brooklyn South, has given the community the designated area of 65th Street and 14th Avenue per Assemblyman Hikind’s request; the funeral procession will pass by this area as it proceeds down 65th Street at 10 a.m. on Sunday, January 4. People are advised to arrive early.
“The brave men and women of the NYPD risk their lives every day protect us,” said Hikind. “We are more than appreciative for what New York’s Finest do and we should convey that their loss is indeed our loss.”
Officer Liu and his partner, Officer Rafael Ramos, were shot to death inside their patrol car on Dec. 20 by a gunman who had posted online about plans to attack police. Liu, 32, was a seven-year police veteran and served in the police auxiliary.
