HIKIND PRAISES POLICE IN SWIFT CAPTURE OF VANDAL WHO SPRAY PAINTED ANTI-SEMITIC HATE MESSAGES IN BORO PARK
MAN IN CUSTODY IDENTIFIED AS FORMER NYPD OFFICER
“THIS WAS NOT A VICTIMLESS CRIME”
Assemblyman Dov Hikind (D-Brooklyn) announced that the Hate Crimes unit has a man in custody regarding last night’s bias incidents throughout Boro Park community.
The person in custody has been identified as a former NYPD officer from the 68th precinct.
Assemblyman Hikind praised Commander Michael Deddo of the 66th Precinct as well as the Shomrim and everyone else who worked together to quickly apprehend the suspect.
“This was not a victimless crime,” said Assemblyman Hikind. “We have many Holocaust survivors here, many elderly people and children who are appropriately frightened by unprovoked hate attacks upon their schools and community. Hate attacks on our community will not go unpunished.”
The vandal, who spray painted swastikas and anti-Semitic phrases in more than 20 locations in Boro Park, one of Brooklyn’s largest Orthodox communities, was captured on video surveillance. The anti-Semitic graffiti, which included swastikas and phrases like “F— you Jews” were sprayed in red paint on walls and cars along Dahill Rd. and 37th St., and 14th Ave. near 38th St.
