Assemblyman Hikind (D-Brooklyn) was delighted to join his colleague Senator Simcha Felder this morning outside of Goldberg’s Supermarket on 50th and 51st Streets for the launch of Project Sweep. Senator Felder provided $100,000 in funding for initiative, which is administered by the Midwood Development Corporation (MDC).

“When you walk the streets and the streets are clean, that is a wonderful thing,” said Hikind. “It also minimizes sanitation violations, which is something that store owners and home owners are very concerned about. All of this goes to help our community in a very big way. Thank you Senator Felder for leading the charge. It’s things like Project Sweep that make such a great difference in our community.”

“A clean and litter-free commercial area instills community pride and encourages more people to visit and shop, which is a win for the neighborhood,” Senator Felder said. “I’m pleased that I was able to bring this program to 18th Avenue and to provide an employment opportunity for adults who want to give back to the community.”

Project Sweep workers will be on 18th Avenue every Monday through Friday morning to spruce up the strip from McDonald Avenue to 65th Street. Senator Felder is also funding Project Sweep programs on 13th Avenue from 38th Street to 60th Street, and 16th Avenue from 39th Street to 60th Street.

City Councilman David Greenfield, Community Board 14 District Manager Shawn Campbell, and CB 12 District Manager Barry Spitzer, and Chairman of CB 12 Yiddel Perstein also attended.
