Assemblyman Dov Hikind (D-Brooklyn) announced the opening of this year’s Neighborhood Heating Fund - HeartShare program, which provides assistance to eligible households who need help with the cost of heating their homes. Grants of up to $200 may be available to those that have an open balance on their National Grid heating account.

Assemblyman Dov Hikind’s office is designated as an authorized center for the Neighborhood Heating Fund and has been assisting residents with applications and information for years. Qualifying constituents can obtain and complete an application at the Assemblyman’s office at 1310 48th Street, 2nd Floor, Brooklyn, NY 11219. The Neighborhood Heating Fund, administered by HeartShare Human Services of New York and National Grid, is available to residents of Brooklyn, Queens, and Staten Island. The program is limited to owners and tenants who live in 1-2 family homes or tenants of apartments who pay for their own heat. The fund was founded by National Grid in 1983 to help low-income families and individuals with elevated bills meet their monthly payments. In 1993, HeartShare Human Services of New York was asked to administer the fund. Together, National Grid and HeartShare assist families each heating season, which runs December through March.
