“Stop pretending to care about children! This is all about you!”

“You want to disagree? Disagree! But don’t lie,” scolds Assemblyman Dov Hikind (D-Brooklyn) in bold statement to The New York State United Teachers over the union’s mailers regarding the Parental Choice in Education Act. NYSUT recently sent mailers to New Yorkers urging them to pressure their Assembly members from supporting the Act, which was introduced last month by NYS Governor Andrew Cuomo in a push for education investment tax credits.

“NYSUT is sending mailers to my colleagues’ constituents calling the Parental Choice in Education Act ‘a shady giveaway’ which is pushing the Governor’s ‘so-called Parental Choice in Education Act and is ‘a tax giveaway for Wall Street and the Wealthy.’ How disingenuous is this statement? How deceitful? They claim the Act would divert money from public schools and give it to ‘the Governor’s billionaire friends.’

“This would be funny if NYSUT wasn’t fooling people who don’t know any better. The truth is we added money to the education budget this year! Moreover, the so-called ‘wealthy’ don’t benefit from this act. The ones who benefit are children from families whose households earn below a certain income level.

“Why would anyone be against education for all children? Especially teachers? Maybe it’s time for NTSUT to tell us their real agenda. We know it’s not children.”

In an effort to help NYSUT move closer to the truth, Hikind designed an ad that he said they can feel free to use in their campaign.
